Václav Moravec
Lead Coordinator, CEDMO
Václav is a lead coordinator of CEDMO and his role, among others, includes chairing the Strategic Board and taking strategic decisions for the hub. Václav is also an assistant professor at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, and at the Department of Production, FAMU, Prague. He specializes in the transformation of audiovisual media, journalistic ethics, automated journalism and journalism with artificial intelligence. He is the principal investigator of several European (e.g. 2020-EU-IA-0267) and Czech research grants. He is a member of the executive committee of the PRG.AI initiative for artificial intelligence.
Milena Králíčková
Rector, Charles University
Milena Králíčková graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen at Charles University in Prague, after which she worked at the Department of Histology and Embryology and at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University hospital and Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. In 1997 she was awarded by The Fulbright Commission Scholarship for the academic year 1998/1999 and she has worked at The Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard in Boston, U.S.A. in the team of Reproductive Endocrine Unit. In 2016, she became a professor of medical histology and embryology.
Věra Jourová
Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency
Věra Jourová is currently Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency and deals with democracy, rule of law, media pluralism and fight against disinformation. From 2014 to 2019, she served as EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality. In 2014, before arriving to the European Commission, Ms Jourová held the position of Minister for Regional Development in the Czech Republic. Previous to this, from 2006 to 2013, she worked in her own company as an international consultant on European Union funding, and was also involved in consultancy activities in the Western Balkans relating to the European Union Accession.
Robert Ivanschitz
Associate General Counsel, Corporate External Legal Affairs, Microsoft Central Europe, Middle East and Africa
Robert manages a team of professionals responsible for the legal, corporate, government affairs, policy, and regulatory work in CEMA, supporting Microsoft’s business in 109 countries. Robert joined Central Europe, Middle East, and Africa Area from Microsoft Latin America where he was the Associate General Counsel since 2015. In such capacity, Robert was responsible for supporting and coordinating the regional legal, corporate affairs, regulatory and policy work in all 7 subsidiaries located in Latin America, including Mexico and Brazil.
Robert holds a Law Degree from the Catholic University of Chile School of Law and a Master’s in Law Degree (LL.M) from Columbia University School of Law in New York. He is also admitted to the New York bar. Robert has represented Microsoft extensively in several conferences, panels and external events.
Alan Záruba
Director of Digital Content Creation, Livesport
Alan has co-authored and curated a number of projects focusing on graphic design and visual culture (e.g., Isotype and the development of modern global signs, 2002-2003; e-a-t / experiment and typography, 2004-2006, and Work! and Search Design, 2005-2006). In 2006, he published Sketches with architect Jan Kaplicky, with whom he collaborated on many projects. From 2007, he worked as a senior designer at Czech Television, then as art director of ČT24 and ČT Sport. In 2014, he left public television to join the Nova and CME groups, where he became creative director of TV Nova, TV Markiza and managed projects such as the visual transformation of Televizni noviny and other journalistic programmes. He left CME in 2021 and now applies his extensive experience, complemented by typography and curation skills, as Director of Digital Content Creation at the global multimedia company Livesport.
Nik Hynek
Head of Research, CEDMO
Nik has served as CEDMO’s Head of Research, coordinating research activities in the countries where CEDMO operates on behalf of Charles University as the principal investigator. Nik is also a social scientist working across a range of disciplines, topics, and methods. His full professorship is in Political and Cultural Geography; habilitation in Theory of Politics; and PhD in Security Studies. In the past, he worked within the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a researcher and established there a research center on security. Nik’s articles have appeared in many top-ranked scientific journals.
Karina Stasiuk-Krajewska
Associate Professor, SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities
Karina is an associate professor at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Wrocław and coordinator of the Central European Digital Media Observatory in Poland. In her scientific work, she deals with issues of ethics and professionalization of journalism and the fact-checker community, as well as quantitative and qualitative discourse analysis. She is the author and co-author of research and publications on disinformation. Karina is an experienced educator, lecturer, and author of several study programmes in the field of journalism and media. She is a member of EDMO’s Group of Experts on Structural Indicators for the Code of Practice on Disinformation and the International Fact-Checking Network expert.
Roman Imielski
Deputy Editor in Chief and Political Editor at Gazeta Wyborcza
Roman is the Deputy Editor in Chief and Political Editor of “Gazeta Wyborcza” – the leading Polish quality newspaper with 300,000 digital subscribers and average print sales of 60 000. He serves as the Head of the “Gazeta Wyborcza” investigative team, and has been responsible for the most important investigative articles since 2016. Roman comments on Polish and international political affairs on TV and radio. Formerly, he was a Foreign, News, and Video Editor, specializing in internal affairs, European Union issues, transatlantic relations, and Russia.
Péter Krekó
Executive Director, Political Capital, and Coordinator, HDMO
Péter is a political scientist, social psychologist, and disinformation expert. He is a senior fellow at the Washington-based CEPA think tank and a PopBack Fellow at the University of Cambridge. Before that, he was a guest researcher at the Europe’s Futures – Ideas for Action program of the Vienna-based Institute for Human Sciences (IWM), and a non-resident Associate Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University SAIS Bologna Institute of Policy Research. Peter is an associate professor with habilitation at the Department of Social Psychology at ELTE PPK. He has been the executive director of Political Capital since 2011. His main areas of expertise are disinformation, Russian political influence in the West, and European populism and radicalism.
Vít Beneš

Vít Beneš is a lecturer at the Department of International Relations and European Studies, Metropolitan University Prague. He holds a Ph.D degree from the University of Economics, Prague and has a teaching experience from various universities in Prague. His research interests focus on the political and institutional aspects of the European integration, EU institutional reform and EU enlargement. He is also studying Czech foreign policy, Czech policy towards the EU.

Jochen Spangenberg is Deputy Head of Research and Cooperation Projects at Deutsche Welle. The topical focus of his work over the past decade has been on research dealing with social newsgathering, disinformation analysis and verification of digital content, and relating all this to the news sector and journalism. Jochen also lectures at the Free University Berlin in Media & Communication Sciences, and sits on the Advisory Boards of EDMO and the EDMO Hubs CEDMO and GADMO.
Ivan Srba
Senior Researcher, Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies
Ivan is a senior researcher at the Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies (KInIT) located in Bratislava, Slovakia. He has expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural learning processing and data analysis, with a focus on learning with limited labelled data and data emerging from user behavior on social computing and collective intelligence systems, such as social networks, knowledge sharing systems and e-learning. His current primary research interest is countering online disinformation and misinformation. Ivan is currently a member of CEDMO project executive board and a task leader at HE RIA vera.ai project. He is a member of ACM educational and scientific computing society, ACL community and a former member of the Datalys@PeWe research group.
Krisztina Stump
Head of the Media Convergence and Social Media Unit, European Commission
Krisztina’s unit drafted the Commission Guidance on how to strengthen the Code of Practice on Disinformation and accompanied the drafting of the new Code. She is also in charge of various other initiatives fighting the spread of disinformation. Krisztina has held various positions within the European Commission in telecommunications, audiovisual media regulation, media pluralism, copyright and social media policy. Krisztina holds Master of Laws degrees with a focus on Media Law from Columbia Law School (New York) and from Humboldt University (Berlin).
Dominika Hajdu
Policy Director at the Center for Democracy & Resilience, GLOBSEC
Dominika is the Policy Director at the Center for Democracy & Resilience at GLOBSEC. She has led large-scale international projects focusing on research, awareness-raising and capacity-building activities aiming to build societal and state resilience. In research, she focuses on the impact of new technological and geopolitical developments on democratic societies, cognitive security, and strategic communication of the public sector. She holds an MA in EU Foreign Policy from the University of Leuven in Belgium.
Jiří Matas
Head of the Visual Recognition Group, Department of Cybernetics, Czech Technical University in Prague
Jiří is a full professor and Head of the Visual Recognition Group, Department of Cybernetics, Czech Technical University in Prague. His research interests include visual tracking, object recognition, image matching and retrieval, machine learning, and pattern recognition. He has published over 300 papers that have been cited more than 66666 in Google Scholar (h-index = 94). He is an Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Computer Vision, and he served on the computer science panel of the ERC. Jiří has co-founded two companies, Eyedea Recognition (computer vision) and Locksley (combinatorial optimization) and is an inventor of several patents.
Jana Soukupová
Head of Regulatory Activities, CEDMO
Jana Soukupová is a PhD candidate at Charles University, Faculty of Law. Her main specialization is ICT law, with a primary focus on data and digital assets. She was awarded SYLFF fellowship and carried out a research stay at Maastricht University during her doctoral studies. She is in charge of regulatory activities at CEDMO.
Julia Schvarcova
Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager at Google
Julia is a public policy professional with 9+ years of experience working on EU and national regulatory issues in Brussels, Warsaw, Prague and Bratislava. She is currently leading Google’s government affairs & public policy in Czechia and Slovakia, as well as focusing on the company’s approach to content responsibility in the CEE region. Previously, Julia worked as an EU Public Affairs Manager for the global consultancy Weber Shandwick in Brussels. She obtained a Master’s degree in International Public Management from Sciences Po in Paris and a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Manchester. She is also an alumni of the Aspen Institute Young Leaders Program.
Sally Reynolds
COO at the Media & Learning Association and Director of Media Literacy for EDMOeu
Sally is the Chief Operational Officer of the Media & Learning Association. Through her work in the association, Sally has been actively engaged in various media literacy activities for several years and is currently the Director of Media Literacy for EDMOeu as well as being an observer in the European Commission’s Media Literacy Experts group. She was also a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy through education and trainingand is an active member of EMIL, EPRA’s media literacy taskforce as well as leading and supporting several media literacy projects funded by the European Commission and EMIF.
Lucie Šťastná
Head of Media Literacy, CEDMO
Lucie is a coordinator of media literacy activities in the CEDMO project. She is also a researcher at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism at Charles University (MIRA group). Her research focuses mainly on media literacy, media education, and parental mediation. In the past, she participated in several media education projects for Czech teachers in the non-profit organisation “Centre of Media Education”. She led or co-led research projects that monitored various areas of media literacy in the Czech Republic. Lucie also led the preschool education part of the project “Supporting digital literacy development” at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. Between 2017-2018, she supported the discussion about the future of Czech media education by organizing expert seminars in the Senate of the Czech Parliament.
Filip Trhlík
Co-Founder, Verifee.ai
Filip co-founded Verifee.ai, a non-profit organisation that leverages AI to evaluate the trustworthiness of over 100,000 Czech news articles monthly. He is a research fellow at Charles University, delving into the intersection of media studies and artificial intelligence. Furthermore, Filip collaborates with the University of Pennsylvania, examining the robustness of AI-generated text detection techniques. Lastly, he is currently pursuing a Computer Science degree at University College London.
Petr Gongala
Project Coordinator, Demagog.cz
Petr manages Demagog.cz, the only dedicated fact-checking project in the Czech Republic, and serves on the executive and strategy boards of CEDMO, a regional multidisciplinary hub devoted to combating misinformation. Petr has worked as a fact-checker, authored promise tracking publications and set up voting apps. He is also a senior research analyst at IDC.
Joyce Zablit

Joyce is an AFP journalist with more than three decades of professional experience. She is currently in charge of several projects in Europe focused on fact-checking and disinformation. She has managed several AFP bureaus during her career at AFP. Her most recent posting was as Bureau Chief for the US West Coast based in Los Angeles. Prior to that, she was Head of the AFP English Europe/Africa Desk, AFP Bureau Chief in Beirut, and European Affairs Correspondent, then Lifestyle Editor in Washington.
Jastinder Khera

Since April 2021 Jastinder has been an editor on the Europe Fact Check team at Agence France Presse (AFP), one of the world’s leaders in digital investigation and a proud partner of CEDMO. The team Jastinder works in monitors and debunks content in 13 languages, including Czech and Slovak, with many more covered by AFP’s teams across the world. Jastinder previously worked for BBC News in London for ten years across the corporation’s radio, television and online output.
