IPSOS_26_EN

Generative artificial intelligence and its use

By the end of 2025 the vast majority of the population in the countries surveyed (80%) is familiar with what ChatGPT is. These are mainly people under the age of 44. The model is best known in Estonia, Germany, and Slovenia. In the three years since the model’s inception, 63% of people have tried it, with the highest percentage in Slovenia, where three-quarters of the population has tried it. On the other hand, the French and Germans are the most skeptical about the model. 77% of people who have used ChatGPT tried it out of interest. 74% used ChatGPT to verify some information. These are mainly young people aged 15 to 24. Slovaks (81%), Slovenians (80%), and Czechs and Finns (79%) most often use this model to verify information. For the majority (83%) who tried the model, it was useful.

Attitudes toward artificial intelligence

Positive expectations (41%) prevail in the countries surveyed regarding the use of artificial intelligence in everyday life. The populations of Slovenia (49%) and Estonia (47%) are the most positive about the everyday use of artificial intelligence. Finland and France are the opposite. In the V4 countries and the other five countries surveyed, men and people aged 15 to 34 are more likely to have positive expectations about the use of artificial intelligence in everyday life, while women and people over 55 are more likely to have negative expectations.

However, 58% believe that there are many beneficial applications based on artificial intelligence. In France, 47% of people agreed, and 55% said they are amazed by what artificial intelligence can do. This includes 61% of French people, 60% of whom say they are very concerned about the future use of artificial intelligence. 62% of French people say that they find artificial intelligence ominous. In the countries surveyed, this opinion is shared by 40% of people in the countries surveyed. And 53% of French people fear that artificial intelligence could threaten security (vs. 42% of people in the V4+5 countries). Enthusiastic Estonians, on the other hand, say that artificial intelligence is exciting in 62% of cases, compared to only 30% in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. 57% of people in Estonia believe that artificial intelligence systems can perform better than humans. This opinion is shared by 57% of Finns. In the Czech Republic, 42% of people think so. 45% of Estonians attribute a positive impact on people’s well-being to artificial intelligence. In the Czech Republic, it is 32%.

V4 and the use of artificial intelligence

When it comes to awareness of the ChatGPT model, the Czech Republic has the lowest percentage of people who know about it among the V4 countries (72%), while Hungary has the highest (81%). People in Hungary are slightly more adventurous when it comes to trying out the model. However, in all V4 countries, it is over 60 percent. Poles and Hungarians tried the model out of curiosity much more often than Czechs and Slovaks. In comparison, Poles use it much less to verify information and, compared to other V4 countries, they use it least often to learn something new. On the other hand, 37% of Poles use it as a source of news. This is used by 34% of Slovaks, 28% of Czechs, and 27% of Hungarians.

Slovaks use ChatGPT at least several times a week most often (52%), followed by Hungarians (47%). Czechs and Poles are tied (45%).

Thirty percent of Czechs, Slovaks, and Hungarians have sufficient information about artificial intelligence. Poles fare slightly worse (27%).
