The Russian Federation now has a history of producing misleading or false information for more than a century. During the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks used disinformation to manipulate in order to gain political power. Then in 1923, the Soviet Politburo approved the establishment of the Disinformation Bureau. Its purpose was to create and disseminate false documentation to deceive Western governments about the true state of the Red Army.
