Václav Moravec
Lead Coordinator, CEDMO
Václav is the main coordinator and chairs the strategic board of the CEDMO consortium. He is a researcher at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University and at the Department of Production at FAMU in Prague. He specializes in the transformation of audiovisual media, journalistic ethics, automated journalism and artificial intelligence journalism. He is the principal investigator of several European and Czech research grants (e.g. DIGITAL-2023-DEPLOY-04, project 101158609). He is a member of the executive committee of the PRG.AI initiative for artificial intelligence.
Věra Jourová
Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency
Věra Jourová is currently Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency and deals with democracy, rule of law, media pluralism and fight against disinformation. From 2014 to 2019, she served as EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality. In 2014, before arriving to the European Commission, Ms Jourová held the position of Minister for Regional Development in the Czech Republic. Previous to this, from 2006 to 2013, she worked in her own company as an international consultant on European Union funding, and was also involved in consultancy activities in the Western Balkans relating to the European Union Accession.
Paolo Cesarini
Programme Director of EDMO
Paolo Cesarini is the Programme Director of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) and the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF) projects at the EUI. He also collaborates as a Senior Advisor at Teneo, a global CEO advisory firm, providing counsel in management, strategy and corporate communications. Expert in media policies, Digital Single Market and EU competition law, Paolo Cesarini previously held management roles at the European Commission, namely in the Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMP), covering both the antitrust and State aid policy areas and in the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT), where he led various initiatives addressing the technological transition of the European media industry, the interdependency of societal issues and digital media, online disinformation and the innovation gap between research, technology and culture. Before joining the European Commission, he worked as a member of the Legal Service at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva. He has also been teaching EU competition law at the universities of Siena and Montpellier and is a frequent public speaker and author of various publications on EU competition and media laws. Paolo holds a master’s in international law from the University of Siena and an LLM from the College of Europe, Bruges.
Silvio Waisbord
Professor at George Washington University
Silvio Waisbord serves as a Professor at the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University. Currently, he holds the position of President and Fellow of the International Communication Association. Additionally, he is the Editor of the International Journal of Communication. Having authored and edited nineteen books, along with numerous articles on journalism and politics, communication studies, media policy, and communication for social change, he is a prominent figure in the field. His forthcoming works include Introduction to Journalism (Polity) and the co-edited volume (with TJ Billard), Public Scholarship in Communication Studies (University of Illinois Press, 2024). He served as Director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University (2020-2023). Also, he is the former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Communication and the International Journal of Press/Politics. Waisbord received a Licenciatura in Sociology from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego.
Péter Krekó
Project Coordinator of HDMO
Péter is the director of the Political Capital Institute and is currently the consortium leader for the Hungarian Digital Media Observatory, an anti-disinformation hub supported by the European Commission under the umbrella of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO). He is a visiting fellow with the Engaging Central Europe program of The German Marshall Fund of the United States, connected to the EU Horizon project AUTHLIB. His research project focuses on the social psychological processes of informational autocracies: regimes that can be successful through the manipulation of information.
Michal Kormaňák
Head of the Public Affairs Team at IPSOS
Michal Kormaňák has been with Ipsos since 2014. He is the head of the Public Affairs team, specializing in election research. At Ipsos, he is also in charge of projects for the state administration, non-profit organizations and the academic sector. He graduated from the Department of Politics and European Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Palacký University in Olomouc.
Milena Králíčková
Rector of Charles University
Milena Králíčková graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen at Charles University in Prague, after which she worked at the Department of Histology and Embryology and at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University hospital and Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. In 1997 she was awarded by The Fulbright Commission Scholarship for the academic year 1998/1999 and she has worked at The Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard in Boston, U.S.A. in the team of Reproductive Endocrine Unit. In 2016, she became a professor of medical histology and embryology.
Jana Magdoňová
Moderator of the Grand Opening and Journalist at Czech Radio
Jana Magdoňová, is a journalist at Czech Radio, where, together with her colleague Jan Cibulka, she focuses on the topic of cybersecurity every Monday in our program Antivirus. The goal is to equip listeners with practical advice on how to navigate the digital world safely. This work earned Jana a cybersecurity award, which has greatly motivated her to continue this important mission.
In 2021, Jana also founded the project Ověřovna, which focuses on debunking disinformation. The project has published nearly 200 articles that help readers identify falsehoods and strengthen critical thinking. As part of this project, we also created Ověřovna na vlastní kůži, where we actively engage in education. We visit schools and give lectures for seniors, where participants have the opportunity to verify disinformation themselves and contribute to the creation of articles for iRozhlas.
