
We invite you to a free on-site training session: Is it True or Fake News? Teaching Critical Thinking in the Context of Presidential Elections.
This training is designed for civics, history, and Polish language teachers, as well as educators and mentors interested in developing students’ critical thinking skills.
Date: April 10, 2025, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
Location: III High School (library), Noniewicza 83 Street, Suwałki.
After completing the training, participants will be able to:
- Explain what disinformation, fake news, and manipulation are, particularly in the context of presidential elections;
- Differentiate between factual reporting, emotional messaging, and opinion, and teach students how to do the same;
- Analyze media content related to elections using fact-checking tools and help students develop these skills;
- Assess the credibility of information sources based on objective criteria and pass this knowledge on to students;
- Design engaging lessons that foster critical thinking and promote responsible media consumption.
Workshop Program:
- Fake News and Disinformation during Presidential Elections – how to recognize them;
- Methods and Tools for Verifying Online Content – including text, graphics, and AI-generated content analysis;
- Critical Analysis of Information Sources in the Election Context – key aspects to consider;
- Practical Student Exercises – supporting the development of critical thinking skills.
Trainer:
Dr. Aleksandra Monkos – project coordinator at the Demagog Association, expert in combating disinformation, and mentor at the Fact-checking Academy. She specializes in media education and designs training programs that help teachers, educators, and young people enhance their critical thinking and fact-checking skills. She is the author of educational materials, including From Emotions to Resilience Against Disinformation, How to Teach Fake News in Higher Education, and Critical Thinking in a Nutshell.
