At the end of January, the Hungarian hub HDMO hosted the Fighting Disinformation conference in Budapest. The two-day event, hosted by Central European University, was attended by representatives of EDMO hubs and academics from European universities. The conference focused mainly on legal aspects of disinformation, fact-checking, data and media literacy.
Jana Soukupová attended the conference on behalf of CEDMO and presented a paper entitled Regulatory Challenges in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Her presentation focused mainly on blocking disinformation websites in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the spring of 2022. She also introduced the new Slovak law on media services and the Czech draft law on limiting the dissemination of content threatening national security online. The discussion then focused mainly on regulatory options, freedom of expression, proportionality and national motives for regulating disinformation.
