Karina Stasiuk-Krajewska, CEDMO Researcher and expert on the impact of disinformation on society attended the EUPRERA (European Public Relations Education and Research Association) Annual Congress 2024 in Bucharest. EUPRERA is an autonomous organization with over 550 members from 51 countries interested in advancing academic research and knowledge in public relations and strategic communication. To achieve this, EUPRERA organizes a highly regarded Annual Congress in collaboration with a prestigious educational institution in Europe, which provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge, explore innovative methods, and disseminate the latest research outcomes.
Karina gave a lecture at this Annual Congress entitled “Public Relations, Professionals, and Disinformation” about the attitude in Poland towards disinformation. She discussed the dangers of information disorders in the context of public relations and the attitudes of the PR industry in Poland towards disinformation. The lecture was, in large part, based on research done by the CEDMO teams on disinformation and its impact.
Karina was also recently interviewed on the topic of disinformation: Fear of the unknown: How disinformation tames our fears. In the interview, she explains the paradox of disinformation, and especially conspiracy theories, is that they somehow cure our fears. They provide simple explanations that tame the fear of the unknown. Misinformation provides a false sense of control which helps to explain why it’s so widespread.
